Des the youngest of six to James and Ellen Byrne grew up in the heart of Dublin city, Abbey Street famous for its theatre. James worked as "lift attendant" in the "INDEPENDENT" also on Abbey Street. Des started in the jewellery business at 15 years as a delivery boy for Bensons (Mary St.) and this is where he learned the jewellery trade.
